Position description

WildMetro is seeking an enthusiastic, well organized individual interested in making a contribution to a small and growing non-profit environmental organization. This is a part-time position reporting to the Director and other WildMetro staff. This position will be part of a friendly, dynamic staff dedicated to helping people discover, enjoy, understand, and preserve the incredible natural world found in metropolitan areas.

Duties and responsibilities:
The office assistant performs general administrative duties, including but not limited to routine clerical and data entry work. Beyond the specific tasks outlined below, we encourage the assistant to analyze routine operating practices and make recommendations to ensure smooth and efficient office operation.

1. Maintains an agenda and work plan for all upcoming office activities and projects and shares with all staff on an ongoing basis.
2. Maintains administrative, personnel and financial records.
3. Maintains systems, procedures and methods for record keeping, cost gathering and accounts reporting, including basic financial data entry and invoicing.
4. Occasionally interacts with vendors, partner organizations and public to answer routine inquiries.
5. Provides a variety of supportive services as directed.
6. May occasionally supervise other support volunteers.

Position requirements Must be able to work well independently and with people of a variety of different backgrounds. This position also requires familiarity with computer systems and programs.
Organization information WildMetro is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting nature where people live. Our mission integrates research, education, advocacy, and management programs to effect the intelligent protection of nature in urban areas. Founded in 2002, WildMetro has collaborated with many of New York City’s major institutions, including the American Museum of Natural History, the National Park Service, the New York Botanical Garden, and several area universities.
